One of the most common objections to biblical prophecy is this: "Couldn't Jesus have just fulfilled the prophecies on purpose?" That might sound reasonable... until you get to the crucifixion. A man hanging on a Roman cross couldn't control what his enemies were saying or doing. Jesus was nailed to the cross, struggling to breathe, surrounded by people who hated Him. He wasn't handing out scripts to the crowd. Yet the people mocking Him echoed the language of Psalm 22, a prophecy written centuries before Jesus was born. The Roman soldiers cast lots for His clothing. His enemies mocked Him. They pierced His hands and feet. The very people trying to humiliate Jesus ended up fulfilling the Scriptures they didn't even believe. So here's the question: How do you explain Jesus' enemies unintentionally fulfilling prophecy?
