Joshua

On this day, the church remembers Joshua. Joshua is first mentioned in Exodus 17. He was one of the twelve spies sent into Canaan who, along with Caleb, encouraged the people to enter the promised land because God had given it to them. After the death of Moses, Joshua took over as leader. He led the people through the Jordan River into the promised land, guided them through military campaigns, and famously declared, "As for me, and my house, we will serve the Lord." In Hebrew, Joshua's name is Yeshua, which is the same as Jesus. We remember Joshua for his faithfulness, and we remember our Joshua, Jesus, who leads us through the waters of baptism into the promised land of the resurrection and everlasting life.
