Why worship leaders confuse being liked with being called

And here’s the part that made me sit down and get honest with myself. Being liked and being called can run on completely different timelines. You can be called at nineteen and not liked until years later. You can be liked this Sunday and not actually called to what you did up there at all. The two don’t move together, so using one to measure the other will always give you the wrong answer. Here’s how you know which one you’re actually chasing. Notice what happens in the quiet after. If the room was quiet and you feel disappointed, that’s approval talking. If the room was quiet and you feel peace because you know you obeyed, that’s calling talking. Same quiet room, two completely different reactions, and the reaction is the only honest measurement you’ve got. Most worship leaders wasn’t taught to notice that difference. We was taught to read the room. Nobody sat us down and said watch what happens in your body when nobody’s watching, that’s where the truth is. And the cost of getting this wrong isn’t small. You can burn years chasing a feeling in a room and call it faithfulness, when really you never once asked if you was even called to be up there that day.
