The Risen Jesus Appears: “Look at My Hands and My Feet” (Luke 24)

While the two disciples from Emmaus were still telling how they recognized Jesus in the breaking of the bread, the risen Lord suddenly stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.” The disciples were startled and terrified, thinking they were seeing a ghost. Jesus reassured them: “Why are you troubled? Look at my hands and my feet — it is I myself. Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have.” To further prove He was truly alive, Jesus asked for something to eat and ate a piece of baked fish in front of them. Then He explained: “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you — that everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be fulfilled.” He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures and said, “Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins, would be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
