We should sing, “Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba...did you know?”
These women were courageous not scandalous. They refused to be left outside the promise. One was abandoned by her in-laws. One was a Canaanite who should have been destroyed with her city. One was a Moabite woman, women who were slandered for being seductresses who led Israel away from faith; instead she led the way with her own faith. One was exploited and sullied in the process. And yet. Here they are in the lineage of Israel’s Messiah.
What gets me is that all four went to their grave not knowing their significance or their place in the salvation story. But you see, God works even after we’re gone. Keep trusting him. Jesus is strong enough to redeem your past and to redirect your future.
