Hannah

On this day, the church remembers Hannah, the mother of the prophet Samuel. Hannah was not given a son because she prayed hard, promised to give the child to God, or to spite her husband's other wife. Her prayer reflects her faith, but it was not her faith that granted her the child. She was given a son because God remembered her, loved her, and loves to give. God gives to Hannah, as he does with us, out of unconditional love rather than conditional arrangements. God provides salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ, who was born, crucified, died, resurrected, and ascended. God gives Jesus through the word and sacraments for the forgiveness of sins. Like Hannah, we receive what God gives out of love and rejoice in Him.
