🔴 Yokes That Are Not of God | Toxic Discernment | Over-Mothered Under-Fathered | Why Bother Praying?

In today’s Sunday Live, I was joined by my son, Maximus, as my co-host! We had a powerful, fun and vulnerable time together, while addressing questions you sent in. Max shared a number of updates, about his dreams of growing in his artwork, starting his own YouTube channel and the areas of his life where has grown and overcome. He also opened up about what it feels like inside his mind while having autism and what his experience of adulting has been like so far. I took questions from the live chat about suffering with Christ while battling OCD, anxiety and panic. I shared how Jesus’ “easy yoke” doesn’t mean an easy life, but a different way of relating to pressure and burdens. I also explored some confusion about between being “children of God” and the “bride of Christ” and how both metaphors shape our identity, security and anticipation of Christ’s return. I spent time addressing deep questions around prayer and disappointment—what to do when your house doesn’t sell, the diagnosis is bad, the money isn’t there. One person was wondering, "Why bother praying?" I dug into confusion around the so-called “gift of discernment” online, where everything is labeled demonic. I pushed back against fear-based, superstitious and obsessive deliverance approaches that fuel OCD rather than free people, pointing instead to grounded, biblical spiritual warfare. Along the way I talked about over-mothering, while also having emotionally absent fathers and how those dynamics can feed numerous emotional and mental health struggles. I talked to a man's question about trying to become more assertive. Max also shared about his growth in social skills, adulting, riding a bike, learning to drive a golf cart and how creativity—through watercolor, pen and ink, charcoal, and digital art—helps him process life, faith, and struggle.
