Every ambulance in America carries a symbol most people think came from Greece. It didn't. The snake on a pole goes back further than any mythology — to a wilderness, a rebellious people, and a command from God that made no logical sense until Jesus quoted it directly in the verse right before John 3:16. The Moses bronze serpent story in Numbers 21 is one of the most overlooked symbols in all of scripture. The Israelites are dying from snakebites. God tells Moses to forge a bronze serpent and lift it up — and anyone who looks at it lives. The image of the curse became the means of healing. Two thousand years later, Jesus is speaking to Nicodemus. Right before John 3:16 — the most recognized verse in the Bible — he says: "As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up." That wasn't a throwaway line. That was an identity statement. The cross follows the exact same pattern.
