If you want to make most people squirm, ask them to practice stillness; to still and do nothing...absolutely nothing. Within 5 seconds, most people would reach for their cell phones or find something to keep their minds stimulated. It’s amazing how unfamiliar we are with a life of stillness. Masses of people live as though their daily goal is to constantly “keep busy,” as if being still was going to kill them. The reality is, we don’t know how to be still or keep still. Many people are even afraid of getting still. Most of all, we simply don’t know how to get still and experience the benefits of it. Yet the Bible gives us one of the most power promises of engaging God; to be still and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10). Yet we must know there is a war waging over keeping people from being still. We have been trained in our modern culture to live as human doers, not human beings. Our lives have become filled with so much activity and mental stimulation, we don’t know how to turn it off. Yet in the midst of all the chaos, busyness and pressure that people live under, God is calling us to experience life in moments of stillness. In this episode, we want to talk about the transforming power of getting still and practicing stillness on a daily basis. http://markdejesus.com/
