The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. Listen, my son, to your father's instruction, and do not forsake the teaching of your mother.

Solomon opens his book of practical sayings with the foundation under all the rest: the fear of the LORD. Without reverence, the cleverest mind is still a fool's. Wisdom literature is not where Christians come for advice — it is where the cosmos teaches us what kind of place it is.
