For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive yours.

Jesus attaches these two verses to the end of the Lord's Prayer — forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors — and refuses to let his disciples treat the clause as decorative. Forgiveness received and forgiveness given run on the same circuit.
