Mark Brumley comments on the Foreword, explaining the relationship between historical scholarship and the faith of the Church in interpreting the Bible. Fr. Fessio shows how the Hosanna at Jesus’ entrance to Jerusalem is the bridge between his Galilean ministry of teaching and his Jerusalem ministry of his Passion, death and Resurrection, and how this is recapitulated in every Mass: the liturgical Hosanna is the bridge between the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Sacrifice. He also comments on Ratzinger’s interpretation of the Cleansing of the Temple in reference to Psalm 69.
