Is the Star & Crescent really Islamic? The Coins say NO!

When we looked at the early 'Islamic Coins' we noticed that the coins minted by the Umayyad Caliph Mu'awiya in 661 AD and later all had a crescent-moon and star on the margins, yet we have noticed that there are no Islamic references on any of these coins, except perhaps these crescent and stars. So, could these crescent stars prove that Mu'awiya was a Muslim? The answer is no, since the crescent and star were a common Persian motif used on coins by Persian kings since the time of King Orodes II in the first century BC. We showed another coin minted by King Vardanes I of Parthia between 40-45 AD, which had a crescent and star on the obverse side of the coin, on the left. The first Sassanid king to introduce the crescent and star motif was King Kavadh between 448-531 AD, so it was a well used and recognized symbol by the Persian kings long before Islam adopted it as their symbol. So, when did the Muslims begin to use the star and crescent as their symbol? It was not until the Ottomans used the star and crescent on their flag in 1844 AD that any Muslims applied it, which is just 176 years ago! And it wasn't until the 20th century that other Islamic countries applied it to their flags. Azerbaijan put it on to their flag in 1918. Pakistan put it on to their flag in 1947. Mauritania and Tunisia put it on to their flag in 1959. Algeria applied it to their flag in 1962, and Malaysia used it on their flag in 1963. So the Star and Crescent was primarily a Persian symbol, and was not adopted by any Muslims until 1844 AD, and then finally applied as a Muslim symbol by a number of nations in the last century, proving that the star and crescent on Mu'awiya's coins were not Islamic at all.
