Let us Christians set aside April 17-19 to fast and pray for our Muslim friends!

Ten years ago 21 Egyptian Coptic Christian men were killed by ISIS (Islamic State) in Libya through beheading, with the video released on February 15, 2015, showing their murder on a beach along the southern Mediterranean coast. Most of you probably remember it well. To commemorate their martyrdom, Father Lazarus from the Coptic church here in the US contacted Dr Jay Smith to do a recording about it, but he didn't want to just remonstrate or berate the Muslims for what happened 10 years ago. He wanted to give a whole new message, one of love and forgiveness to those who had perpetrated that atrocity. Jay agreed, especially at this time of Lent, leading up to Easter, and felt it was appropriate that Christians come together from various denominations and groups to prepare ourselves for what our Lord did for us 2,000 years ago. In order to commemorate the martyrdom in the context of Love and Forgiveness, Father Lazarus and Dr Smith are asking that all Christians give up 3 days (April 17-19) to fast and pray for our brother Muslims, to show them that this is what Christ expects of us to do. Jesus was hated, ostracized, tormented, beaten, and finally killed; yet, notice how he responded. While on the cross one of his last words were: "Father forgive them for they know not what they do". That should be our response as well.
