Islam wasn't created in 22 years! Try 200 yrs!

How could Islam have been so successful, so quickly? That's the question two of our viewers asked. The 9th - 10th century Islamic Traditions tell us that Islam was immediately successful and grew quickly in a short period of just 22 years (between 610 - 632 AD), with all of its traditions, all of its theology, its beliefs and practices completely in place, and all due to the example of one man...Muhammad. Yet, how could such a sophisticated religion, with its intrinsic rules and regulations be created in a nomadic desert environment, with no prior record of civilization in that place or in that time, and with no urban structures to build upon? That just makes no historical sense! Well, it turns out that it didn't happen with just one man, nor did it take place in just the space of a mere 22 years. The evidence we are now finding concerning the historical record on the ground shows us that the Islam we know today did not exist at all in the 7th century, nor was it created or practiced anywhere near the central part of Arabia known as the Hejaz, but was slowly created, beginning with Abd al-Malik in 692 AD, and continuing on thru the Umayyad dynasty, until 749 AD when the Abbasids, headquartered in Iraq, then formed it into the religion we now see currently practiced all over the world. So, it didn't spring into existence in a mere 22 years, but evolved slowly over a period of 200-300 years.
