After Oct. 7, She Put $162,000 on Her Credit Cards to Help Israel

In the hours after the October 7th terror attacks in Israel, one Israeli-American woman says she felt completely helpless as people she loved found themselves caught in the unfolding horror. Her brother, an IDF reservist, was rushed to the front lines. A close friend spent 26 hours locked inside a safe room with her children. And her stepdaughter was serving at a military base that came under attack. Hours later, she finally called home with devastating news: “All of my friends are dead.” Then another friend called with a problem: Israeli soldiers were fighting without basic protective equipment. That's when the woman who would launch Operation Israel sprang into action. After tracking down suppliers selling IDF-approved ceramic protective vests, she bought everything they had available—putting $162,000 on her personal and company credit cards without knowing how she would ever pay it back. She describes the decision simply: “It was do or die.” Three years later, she says Operation Israel has raised more than $12 million, reached approximately 127,000 Israeli soldiers and delivered nearly 170,000 pieces of gear. The organization says it exclusively supplies defensive equipment and technology, not weapons or offensive equipment. Its projects have included medical and trauma equipment, drone surveillance and training, protective systems against suicide drones, robotic intelligence-gathering vehicles and other technologies designed to protect soldiers in the field. She also describes how the events of October 7 deepened her faith. While she says belief in God had always been important to her, she now believes a series of events surrounding Operation Israel—including unexpectedly receiving nonprofit accreditation just eight days after applying—were signs of divine intervention.
