Did Jesus really exist? The Skeptic’s Journey is a true story of an atheist’s search for answers over more than a decade. The central figure in this series is highly intellectual and extremely skeptical about anything spiritual, including God. He set out to disprove God’s existence and the validity of the Bible.
After researching Old Testament prophesies about Jesus in part 3, in part 4, our skeptic decides to research the life of Jesus as well as his “alleged” miracles. He started by asking the question of whether Jesus even existed. Our skeptic believed it would be a simple explanation if the New Testament writers made up the details about Jesus’ life to fit the storyline of these ancient prophesies.
Not wanting to use the Bible as his only reference, the skeptic first looked for references to Jesus in the Jewish Talmud and the Qur’an. Ultimately, he wanted to know if any non-religious historical documents referenced Jesus.
After researching historical documents written within the 1st or 2nd century, our skeptic found several writings referring to Jesus including ancient texts from a Roman Senator, Tacitus, a Jewish priest and historian, Josephus, and a Greek satirist, Lucian, as well as several others.
In the end, our skeptic had to conclude that Jesus existed, was crucified by Pontius Pilate, had a brother named James, and had many followers who were killed for their faith in him.
The video concludes with the skeptic still not believing Jesus is God but wanting to know the truth. Believing that no one can fool the entire world without any help, our skeptic decides to investigate Jesus’ closest followers for his next area of research.
