Lloyd#4: Shariah is Irrelevant because it's 1200 yrs too old!

That is what Lloyd tries to talk about in this video. It's clear that when you read the Qur'an it is very confusing, as nothing seems to flow, with stories neither beginning, nor ending, and no sense of chronology behind them. But even more discouraging are the laws in the Qur'an; they just don't seem to make any sense, nor have any foundation, or relevancy for today. That was why Shariah law was created, to help explain the Qur'an and give guidance concerning how people should live. But these laws were not created by Muhammad, nor even during his lifetim, but during the 8th-9th centuries, over 100-200 years later, and by 4 individuals named: Hanafi (d.767AD from Kufa), Maliki (d.795AD from Medina), Shafi'i (d.820AD from Cairo), and Hanbali (d.855AD from Baghdad). What's more, the Shariah laws we know of today took 900 years to complete, and are extensive. For instance, if someone wanted to know how to do their 5 daily prayers, they had better not refer to the Qur'an, as the four references to prayer which are found there, only mention 3 daily prayers, and say little else. However, if they were a member of the Shafi'i school, they would simply have to refer to the 14th century 'Reliance of the Traveler', the manual for the Shafi'i School, where they would find 100 pages dedicated just to prayer. So, Shariah Law gives authority to the Qur'an and helps explain, expand and apply what the Qur'an initiates. And why do Muslims have to refer to Shariah Law? In order to know how to live, an exegesis (Ijtihad) of Qur'anic verses must be undertaken, which can only be carried out by these 4 Muslim scholars (known as Mujtahids), by the practice of a consensus (Ijma) on every matter. And why should only these 4 scholars be granted so much authority? The answer is because they are bequeathed with faultless knowledge, and therefore cannot be questioned (similar to the Catholics view of the 'Papal Bull'). Thus, everything Muslims are to follow neither comes from Muhammad, nor from anyone even in his century, nor from his area, but are dependent on 4 men who lived over 100 years later and 100s of miles away, and whose ideas haven't changed in over 1200 years.
