Murad, therefore, has now translated 'Jihad' in every place it is found in the Qur'an using that original meaning, which makes the context of those sentence completely different. We have this same problem in English. Today, when we say someone is "gay", we mean that he is a homosexual. But in the last century and before, someone who was "gay" was happy. Thus, when we find the word in earlier English texts, we shouldn't assume that the author was talking about Homosexuals. The same is found with Arabic; and this is what Murad has attempted to do with this new translation. He wants the reader to see the Qur'an as it was intended to mean, before the much later 11th - 16th century Muslims imposed their meanings on many of the words and phrases which we find in the Qur'an.
