Odon, taking his material from an article written by Guillaume Dye, entitled, "Concepts and Methods in the study of the Qur'an", provides a further example where later 8th - 9th century Muslims introduced a distinctly Arab idea into what had been a beautiful 5th - 6th century Christian Aramaic Poem on God's balance in Nature. Odon shows that in Surah 55, verses 5-7 speak about the balance of God's nature, referring to the sun and the moon, the herbs and the trees, as well as the heavens all run a perfectly balanced course, because of God's control. This is followed by verses 10-13 where the author of the poem then refers to what the earth provides for her creatures, including fruits, date palms, corn, fodder, and sweet-scented plants, all given as a blessing from God, and not to be denied by men. Those verses all end in rhymed words at the end of each strofe, and are well known since the time of the 5h - 6th centuries as Christian Syriac hymns, called 'Mathqala' in Syriac, which means 'Balance'. Verses 8-9 however, don't belong to these Christian poems on the 'balance of nature', but instead introduce an entirely different interpretation of the word 'balance', this time interjecting the Arabic translation for this word, 'Mizan', which is nothing more than a merchant's balance used in the market place to keep people from cheating. These two verses are a jarring Segway into the seedy world of commerce, which completely misses the point of the poem. This Arab merchant's view of balance (used in a market place) dropped into the middle of a beautiful Christian Aramaic Poem on God's balance in Nature, is yet more evidence of later Muslims introducing distinctly Arab ideas into what they really didn't know or understand, or possibly because they didn't speak the language, or they just weren't aware of these earlier Christian hymns which had been used since the 5th and 6th centuries. Nonetheless, this proves once again that much of the Qur'an is not from God at all, nor is it eternal, nor has it been unfettered by human hands. This example suggests pretty clearly that this poem was borrowed from Christian Aramaic sources, and then interjected with an Arab and Muslim idea and practice at a later date, and then claimed as the 'Word of God'; which once more, it is not. © Pfander Centre for Apologetics - US, 2022 (60,940) Music: "Friends" by Aleksound, from filmmusic-io
