Where then is Mecca? An Introduction

For this year 2020 we have been giving most of our attention to the "Holes in the Narrative" argument, and have seen some pretty spectacular admissions and 'meltdowns' by Dr Yasir Qadhi as a result, as well as many many Muslims who have become disillusioned with the claim that the Qur'an has been completely preserved. Meanwhile, in the background we have also looked at the historical problems with the emergence of Islam, paying particular attention to whether Muhammad ever existed. Over the summer we brought Robert Spencer to Pfanderfilms to talk about his 2012 book entitled "Did Muhammad Exist?" Since those interviews he has expanded on his book and added another 25% to it with new discoveries that have come to light in the last 8 years, which will soon be in print. And then in November of this year Jay and Dr David Wood had a debate on the same subject, Jay forwarding the view that he didn't exist, and David supporting the notion that he did exist and that the 9th-10th century Traditions could be trusted; with many siding with each of the debaters. That debate, we hope, will continue on into 2021 and beyond. We now look at a corollary to the question of Muhammad's existence and ask whether his city Mecca existed prior to the 8th century either? No one has been able to find any reference to this city in any inscription, or on any building, or on any map until after the mid-8th century, and that indeed is troubling for such a city of such importance and of such antiquity.
