Abortion Is Merciful?

Anne Hathaway recently shared some thoughts on The View which went viral. In the clip, Anne calls abortion "mercy". Stating that since not every situation and pregnancy are the same the rules for each person shouldn't be the same. Within the context of her statement, I think Anne is saying that abortion is merciful for the woman that is going through the pregnancy. It allows her to have options and make decisions for her future and not be forced into a situation she doesn't want to be in. However this view totally leaves out the one person in the situation that has no voice, the child. For the child, abortion is the exact opposite of mercy. It is the purposeful act of taking away the options and opportunities from one that has no voice in the situation out of convenience for the other. As believers, we should approach each situation with care and concern. Taking into account what brought the woman to the place where she is and why she thinks abortion is the only option. However, in doing so we cannot forget to care for the child as well. Remembering that mercy means "compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one's power to punish or harm."
