In many circles of progressive Christianity, expressing certainty on a theological point or doctrine is often viewed negatively, as not being open-minded. Conversely, if you express doubt or say, "I don't know, I'm trying to figure it out," you are often praised as being more enlightened. Instead of the healthy approach—which is to look at our doubts, resolve them, and work through them for clarity—the aim shifts.
