London Bridge Killings: Why wear a 'fake suicide vest'?

Yesterday, November 29th, 2019 a Muslim named Usman Khan attacked and killed two people, and wounded three others with a knife, in the Fishmonger's Hall, next to the London Bridge, the same London bridge, where, in June 2017 eight other people were killed by Muslims. After killing and maiming, Usman Khan then ran onto the bridge and was attacked and brought to the ground by some civilians who had been in the hall, aided by others who were passing by. He was disarmed by them until the police came. When the police came Usman rolled over onto his back and opened his jacket to reveal what looked like a suicide vest. Immediately, upon seeing the vest, the police had everyone move away, and one of them quickly shot and killed Usman to prevent him from blowing them all up. It later turned out to be a 'faux suicide vest' (a fake suicide vest). So, why did Usman wear a fake suicide vest? Once this fact got onto the news, media outlets and journalists tried to make sense of the fake suicide vest, suggesting that he wore it to create fear and 'terror', which is partially true. The other reason give was that he wanted the police to see it so that they would kill him, which is also partially true. But their reasons for why he wanted to be killed completely failed to understand what he was doing, or why he wanted the police to kill him. They suggested it was because he didn't want to spend a long time in jail, and preferred therefore to be killed, rather than spend any more time incarcerated (he had already spent 8 years there for terrorist activities). Yet, that is a Western, humanist way of thinking, but not an Islamic response. To understand why Usman wanted the police to kill you need look no further than the Qur'an itself, the very book all Muslims are to go to in order to know what they are to do and say. But, journalists never go to that book, because they don't think it has anything to do with a Muslim's behavior, since, from their perspective, Muslims only kill and maim because they are 'social misfits', or brainwashed, or have an identity crisis. © Pfander Centre for Apologetics - US, 2019 (25,770)
