Simeon's Song | Luke 2:25-35 | Pastor John Miller

The Gospel of Luke is often called the "Singing Gospel" because it is filled with the songs of Mary, Zacharias, and the Angels. In this study of Luke 2:25–35, Pastor John Miller examines the final song of the Christmas narrative: the Nunc Dimittis of Simeon.
As Joseph and Mary bring the infant Jesus to the Temple to fulfill the requirements of the Law, they encounter a man who has spent his life waiting for the "Consolation of Israel". Discover the four characteristics of Simeon—a man who was just, devout, expectant, and Spirit-led—and learn why his encounter with the Christ child allowed him to face death with total peace. Pastor John explores the radical prophecy of the "Sword" that would pierce Mary’s heart, pointing from the cradle directly to the cross of Calvary.
In this study, you will discover:
- The Singing Gospel: Why Luke records the hymns of the early Christmas story.
- Redeeming the Redeemer: Why Jesus was born under the Law to fulfill its demands and redeem humanity.
- The Character of Simeon: What it means to be righteous, devout, and filled with the Holy Spirit.
- Salvation is a Person: Why salvation is not found in religion or conduct, but in the Person of Jesus Christ.
- The Missionary Song: The universal scope of the Gospel as a light to the Gentiles.
- The Stone, the Sign, and the Sword: Understanding the prophetic images of Christ's impact on the world.
