Gladstone, the one-time prime minister of England, said, “Selfishness is the greatest curse of the human race.” Though we all have an ego—the consciousness of being an individual—that doesn’t mean we have to worship ourselves or live exclusively for ourselves. To live that way is to live in a prison. Let’s see what the Bible has to say about selfish living versus selfless living.
