Think of it like reading a bookshelf—Genesis is narrative, Psalms is poetry, the Gospels are biographies, and then there are the letters & the prophets. Start with One Book Don’t try to read everything. Choose one book. I suggest John if you’re new. Ask 3 Background Questions Before you dive in, ask: Who wrote it? Who were they writing to? Why was it written? One of my favorites is John 20:31. It says: “But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ… and that by believing you may have life in His name.” That’s John literally telling you his purpose for writing! 🟥 Slow Down and Ask These Questions You don’t have to read a whole chapter. One verse at a time is enough! Ask yourself: What does this teach me about God? What does this show me about people? How does this change how I live or think? Try it with Psalm 23:1: “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.” What does it show us about God? He’s personal. A provider. A guide. What does it show about people? We need leading.
