Why did Jesus come from the tribe of Judah and not from another son of Jacob?
The Bible traces Jesus Christ through the tribe of Judah, one of the twelve tribes of Israel. But why Judah? Why not Reuben, Joseph, Levi, Benjamin, or another son of Jacob?
In this Bible documentary, we explore why Jesus came from the tribe of Judah, the blessing Jacob gave to Judah, the rise of the royal line of David, and the messianic prophecies that connected Judah with the coming King.
We examine Genesis 49:10, where Jacob declares that the scepter would not depart from Judah, and how this prophecy became connected with kingship, David, and the Messiah.
We also trace the line from Judah to King David, and from David to Jesus, showing why the tribe of Judah became the royal tribe of Israel.
Why was Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, passed over? Why did the priesthood come through Levi while kingship came through Judah? What role did Joseph’s descendants play? And why is Jesus called the Lion of the tribe of Judah in Revelation?
This documentary also examines the genealogy of Jesus, the Davidic covenant, Old Testament messianic prophecy, and the connection between Judah, David, Bethlehem, and Jesus Christ.
From Jacob’s blessing over Judah to the birth of Jesus, this is the biblical story of why the Messiah came from the tribe of Judah and not from another son of Jacob.
