Here is the aftermath of the self esteem-movement.

In the 50s, 60s, and 70s, the approach to parenting was behavior management. That means that you care how your kids behave but not really about their hearts. They looked great, but they felt awful inside. This led to a shift in the 80s, 90s, and 2000s, and it was the rise of the self-esteem movement, which in parenting meant that there were tons of praise, making kids feel great so they would be secure. But it turns out, as Rachel Norman expresses, the self-esteem movement has backfired in our society.
