When modern deliverance ministries claim the authority to command spiritual entities directly, they step into territory Scripture reserves for Christ alone. In the biblical world, certain acts of deliverance—especially those involving the highest categories of spiritual oppression—required divine authority, not human command. That’s why the Gospels treat Jesus’ command over the Gerasene demoniac as a revelation of His divinity, not a transferable technique. Jesus healed in many ways, but when He directly commanded these entities to leave, He was doing what only Yahweh can do. The danger of modern deliverance practices is not that they take spiritual realities seriously—but that they elevate human ministers into roles Scripture never gives them.
