Can the Saudi Crown Prince succeed? We hope so!

Everyone who has listened to the interview by MBS seems to think that it will be impossible for MBS to fulfill what he is suggesting. They wonder how can he ever hope to accomplish what no one else has dared to even try in 1400 years? But MBS is different from anyone else who has come before. In fact, he is very similar to someone from within our own tradition, Protestant Christianity who attempted the very same thing; namely, Martin Luther. Back in the 1500s Martin Luther demanded that Christians follow 'Sola Scriptura', only the Bible, much as MBS is demanding Muslims do in the 21st century; that they follow only the Qur'an. What Martin Luther accomplished we name our "Reformation", so might we also say that what MBS is trying to do is Islam's 'reformation'? Aren't they both asking the same thing? Yet, while Martin Luther was only a poor and lowly priest with no real authority other than the Bible itself, look at what he was able to do. He changed the whole history of the church! MBS, on-the-other-hand is much more powerful, has much more authority, and is already doing what he has promised to do, modernize and create a new Saudi Arabia which can be the center of training, technology and a model for every other nation. He can go much faster and with many more people supporting him than Martin Luther ever had, because most of the Muslim world would support him, especially those Muslims who left their Muslim countries to come to the West because of their fear and hatred of the Islam of the Taliban, or Al Qeda, or ISIS, or the many other radical Islamic groups which seem to be popping up all over the world. What's more, almost every Western nation will support MBS's vision for Islam, because they also want a much more benevolent, and more sophisticated and a more Western model of Islam that what we have had in the last 2 decades. MBS's Islam is what everyone, except for the radical Muslims, want, which makes up most of the world's population. It is his Islam which they will support and work for, and which they will give towards to make sure it succeeds. So, MBS may be onto something... But, wait, there is still another problem which MBS may have not thought about yet. Tune in for the next and final episode in this series to see what that 'other elephant in the room' may be.
