Compromise never feels costly at the moment—but over time, it will cost you everything.
Summary:
Judges 1 begins with hope as Israel takes bold steps of faith. But the early momentum fades as tribe after tribe fails to fully obey God’s commands. Instead of driving out sin, they accommodate it. This pattern of partial obedience sets the stage for spiritual collapse. The chapter warns us: delayed obedience isn’t obedience—it’s defiance.
Reflection & Small Group Questions:
1. Why do you think partial obedience is so tempting?
2. What are some modern examples of “delayed devotion” in your own life?
3. How can we justify sin under the disguise of spiritual maturity or strength?
4. What are the dangers of managing sin instead of mortifying it?
5. How do you personally wrestle with the tension between conviction and convenience?
6. In what ways have you seen compromise affect future generations?
7. What’s one area where you feel God calling you to full obedience today?
8. How can believers develop the discipline to act with immediate faith?
9. Why is it easier to settle than to keep striving in obedience?
10. How does Jesus contrast with the failure of Judges 1?
