Why I Pledge Allegiance to Jesus, Not Babylon || Spoken Word

The word gospel didn't originate in a church. It came from the ancient Greek and Roman political world. A Gospel was a proclamation that a king had ascended to power. When Caesar was enthroned, heralds went out with the gospel: the emperor is lord, bow the knee. So when Jesus came proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, he was arrested by a rival empire and died under an opposing nation. But when he rose from the kingdom of death and ascended to the highest heavenly throne he was enthroned as King of the All. Jesus is Lord. Caesar isn't. And that changes everything. In this spoken word poem, David Bowden explores the forgotten piece of the gospel: the ascension of Jesus. Without the ascension, there is no crowned king, no rival throne, no gospel. But because Jesus has ascended above every throne and dominion, every empire and nation now exists under his feet—including the ones we live in today.
