Dr. JT Bridges explained that even some atheists recognize what is at stake in the debate about evolution and Christianity. In fact, thinkers like Richard Dawkins agree that Darwinian evolution creates serious tension with the Christian worldview—but they draw the opposite conclusion. While Christians question Darwinism because they believe it conflicts with the gospel, Dawkins rejects Christianity because he believes it conflicts with the scientific evidence.
If humans are simply the result of biological processes unfolding over time—rather than the product of divine intention—then it becomes increasingly difficult to defend the idea that we have objective moral obligations before God. And if sin is no longer objective, the need for redemption begins to collapse.
That’s why questions about origins are not just scientific discussions. They ultimately touch the very foundation of the gospel and the meaning of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection.
