Jesus is the Center of the Christian Faith: Not the Bible

What does it matter if we say that Christ the human person is the center of the christian faith as opposed to seeing the Bible as that center? For one thing, it is a sad reality that many who say the Bible is a divine text seem to care nothing of conformity to Christ’s image, and will even use the scriptures to justify their actions that do not comport with Jesus’ teachings. Since this is the case, the christian faith is left needing a more precise and simpler “center,” one that can ground its adherents to a central unifying ethical vision and hope for the future. Much of the Bible as such does not do that. Jesus of Nazareth does, and the Bible attests to him.
