Abraham's response to the mysterious visitors is vividly contrasted with the welcome they received in the city where his nephew Lot had settled in. In the chapter we see once again an incident where wickedness can only be tolerated by YHWH for so long before he sends a purging judgment to "sweep away" all that has corrupted His good creation and distorted beyond recognition the Image of God.
