Does Ephesians 1:11 teach that God exhaustively determines everything that happens? Leighton Flowers examines this popular Calvinist proof text and argues that Paul’s words about God “working all things according to the counsel of His will” do not teach exhaustive divine determinism. Instead, he argues that the context of Ephesians 1 concerns the blessings God has predetermined for those who are in Christ. He also compares Ephesians 1:11 with Romans 8:28 and explains why God does not have to determine evil in order to sovereignly redeem it and bring good from it.
